Volunteer Opportunities

"A library is not a luxury but one of the necessities of life." -Henry Ward Beecher

Our volunteers are an important part of the Lake County Public Library family. Thanks to our volunteers, we're able to go above and beyond the library services provided by public funding.

Volunteers help us keep the booksale room open, allow us to offer a variety of classes thanks to their expertise, help keep the library beautiful, and so much more.

HOW: To start volunteering, just head to your local library and pick up an application.

Who Can Volunteer?

Anyone!

We're looking for anyone who wants to be a part of our team. Parents, grandparents, high school students looking for community service hours, retired people looking for something to do, gardeners, writers, teachers - these are all people who have given their time and talent to LCPL!

The need for volunteers throughout the library system is ongoing as the library evolves. There's always something new at LCPL -- may the next new volunteer be YOU!

What Can I Do?

Some specific volunteer opportunities:

• Serve on the Friends of the Library Board

• Adopt A Shelf: Pick a shelf and dedicate 1.5 hours/week to keeping it in order! This is especially important in our DVD collections.

• ESL Literacy Tutor: Help adults learn to speak, read, and write English as their second language. This requires 4 hours/week while classes are in session.

Indiana Collection/Genealogy Volunteer: Help out in the Indiana room and assist patrons with local history and genealogy research.

Have a question about volunteering? Contact our Volunteer Coordinator at (219) 769-3541, ext. 315.
