This month's Books & Chat book: the paths of a blind French girl and a German boy collide in occupied France as both try to survive the devastation of World War II.
Marie Laure is blind, and lives with her father in Paris within walking distance of the Museum of Natural History where he works as the master of the locks. When the Germans occupy Paris, father and daughter flee to Saint-Malo on the Brittany coast. Werner, an orphan, becomes a master at building and fixing radios, a talent that makes him a highly specialized tracker of the Resistance. Their paths collide in occupied France as both try to survive the devastation of World War II.

The Cedar Lake Branch of Lake County Public Library is known for its spacious, beautiful building, which opened to the public in May of 2006. At 20,000 square feet, this new building is the third largest branch in the library system and is located just to the east of the high school from the Hanover School Corporation on West 133rd Ave. We have three private small group rooms and a public meeting room that can accommodate up to 100 people. Every month we hold many preschool, toddler, infant, family and adult classes and events. From computer classes, to arts and crafts, to game night, we've got something for everyone, no matter your age!
